$900,000 Settlement: Karim v. Doe

Our client, age 42, worked as an electrical engineer putting cable into commercial buildings. He was t-boned when the defendant ran a red light. Our client suffered back and neck injuries. He underwent a one level artificial disc surgery on the neck and a sacroiliac fusion. One of the major problems with the case was that our client suffered from a congenital pars defect. When a CT was performed on the day of the accident it evidenced a bone spur on the foramina opening at L5/S1. Our client was asymptomatic before the accident; however he was in constant pain from the accident on. After the sacroiliac fusion he did not get any relief. Eventually he underwent an epidural injection into the area of the bone spur and noticed immediate relief. The defense did a nice job showing the bone spur was not inflamed in the accident and, therefore, argued the need for low back surgery was not related. We argued the incident flared up the area around the bone spur requiring the need for low back surgery. We settled at mediation for $900,000. Our client underwent the back surgery after the settlement with success.

Common Back Injuries

Although back and spinal cord injuries can happen at any time, they are frequently the result of a few common scenarios - Car Accidents and Falls being the most often cited. Statistics show these two categories alone account for more reported incidents each year than any other factors combined. However, it bears mentioning that there are several other contributing sources as well:

  • Motorcycle Accidents
  • Truck or Commercial Vehicle Accidents
  • Pedestrian Accidents
  • Sports-related Accidents
  • Construction Site Accidents
  • Workplace Injuries
  • Hazardous Conditions
  • Medical Malpractice
  • General Negligence

If you or someone you know has experienced one of these life-changing events, seek medical help immediately. Afterwards, secure the services of an expert in back, spine, and neck litigation. Symptoms of Back, Neck, and Spine Injuries

The only thing harder than properly diagnosing a back, neck, or spine injury is being able to fully recover from it and remain pain-free. While most victims feel the initial strains, sprains, and soreness immediately following an accident, the full effects or severity of their injuries may not be evident for many years to come. Having access to a large network of trained doctors, physical therapists, chiropractors, and pain management specialists is vital to making a full recovery.

Every situation is unique, but most back injuries involve damage to the bones, spinal cord, muscles, or soft tissue of the back region. It’s important to recognize these symptoms early on and treat them as soon as possible. Choosing to ignore these conditions can cause some injuries to worsen over time or eventually become permanent.

Some of the most common types of disabilities include:

  • Cervical Sprains and Strains - (neck)
  • Thoracic Sprains and Strains - (upper back)
  • Lumbar Sprains and Strains - (lower back )
  • Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Bulging, Herniated or Strained Discs
  • Fractured Vertebrae
  • Soft Tissue Damage
  • Associated Chronic Pain

Depending on the severity of their injury symptoms, many people report chronic pain that can return anytime and last indefinitely. Because of this uncertainty, many victims mention emotional distress as a side effect of their experiences. Bouts of depression, increased anxiety and elevated stress levels are not uncommon among this group of individuals.

Back, neck, and spinal cord injuries can also cause significant financial hardships for victims and their families. The cost to treat such serious injuries can add up to millions of dollars over the course of a lifetime. What's worse, because of the associated pain of their conditions, many people are unable to work after their accidents and often end up losing much of their existing income in the process.

You owe it to yourself and your family to fight for everything you deserve. Contact us today to recover payment for your injuries and learn what you can do to protect your loved one's well-being for many years to come.
