SACRAMENTO, CA -- A 21-year-old man was killed early Saturday morning when he was struck by a car while on an electric ride-share scooter on Business Loop 80 in Sacramento, according to ABC 10.
A Nissan Altima was heading north on Business Loop 80 when it collided with the scooter just south of the American River Bridge at about 3 a.m. The driver, a 31-year-old man, said he called authorities after realizing he had struck the scooter rider, whom he claims not to have seen prior the crash.
Officers with South Sacramento's California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrived to find the young man fatally injured and the damaged scooter in the roadway. The victim died on the scene.
It was later determined that another woman driving a Toyota 4Runner had initially hit the young man and fled the scene before he was struck a second time.
An investigation is ongoing.
