SACRAMENTO, CA -- Two people have died after a major multi-vehicle accident Sunday night in downtown Sacramento, according to FOX 40 San Diego.

The collision occurred near the intersection of 7th Street and L Street in Old Sacramento at approximately 8:20 p.m.

It is unclear what led up to the accident, but six people in two vehicles were involved.

A male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed authorities.

Medics transported five other victims to area hospitals with varying injuries. One person was listed in critical condition, two suffered "major" injuries, and two others sustained moderate injuries.

Shortly before 9:00 a.m. the next morning, Sacramento Police confirmed a female victim had died from her injuries.

The event left nearby roads closed, delaying traffic for hours in the area.
