SACRAMENTO, CA -- An 18-year-old man died Saturday morning in a fiery collision involving two vehicles on U.S. Route 50 in east Sacramento, according to FOX 40.

The accident happened on the westbound lanes of US-50 east of Howe Avenue at around 7:45 a.m.

The teenager was in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee that was stopped on the highway when a 35-year-old man driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck changed lanes and saw the Jeep straight ahead of him. The pickup truck driver attempted to stop the truck but rear-ended the Jeep, causing the teen's car to spin and catch fire.

California Highway Patrol said the driver of the pickup driver exited his vehicle and rushed to the Jeep in an attempt to open the driver's side door. Even with the help of another passerby, he was unable to pull the teen from the burning vehicle.

The 18-year-old died at the scene, confirmed CHP.

The driver of the pickup cooperated with investigators, who do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role.
