Suspected DUI driver causes multi-vehicle collision in NE Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, CA -- A multi-vehicle accident involving a suspected DUI driver was reported Monday afternoon near the Elkhorn Center shopping mall in northeast Sacramento, according to California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened on the southbound lanes of Butterball Way at the Elkhorn Boulevard intersection. It was first reported by CHP shortly before 3:30 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a red Lincoln Navigator rear-ended a dark gray Honda Accord, which pushed the Accord into a white Hyundai Accent.

All three vehicles were able to move to the shoulder and away from traffic, suggesting minor damage.

No further information has been released, but the CHP crash report indicates at least one of the drivers were suspected of impairment.

As of 4:37 p.m., no injuries were reported in the event.
