SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA -- One person died Saturday evening after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a road near an apartment complex in North Highlands, according to FOX 40.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Madison Avenue and Airbase Drive, west of Interstate 80.
According to California Highway Patrol, the victim was pushing a shopping cart across the road when they were struck, strewing their belongings across the roadway.
Police confirmed the victim died from their injuries at the scene.
The driver, who was not suspected of impairment, stayed after the crash and cooperated with responding officers.
All westbound lanes of Madison were closed to traffic as an investigation was conducted.
