One killed, two hurt after crash in northeast Rio Linda

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA -- One person died Sunday afternoon after a collision that injured two others near the Carolyn Acres area in Rio Linda, according to ABC10.

Crews with Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to the scene at Dominion Way and Elverta Road shortly before 3:40 p.m.

It is unclear what led up to the accident, or whether more than one vehicle was involved, but crews had to perform a rescue extrication for at least one person trapped in a vehicle.

Three victims were transported to a nearby hospital. One person who had suffered critical injuries was later pronounced deceased, confirmed authorities.

The two other victims sustained minor injuries and are expected to recover.

An investigation by California Highway Patrol remains underway.
