Major injury reported after I-5 crash involving overturned semi

SACRAMENTO, CA - One person sustained major injuries after a crash in I-5 southbound on Friday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on I-5 at Florin Road around noon. A semi-truck was overturned in the southbound lanes of the interstate. The towed unit of the semi was hauling groceries and live seafood which emptied into the roadway.

The on-ramp at Florin Road was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene.

One person was transported to a nearby hospital with major injuries.

The cause of the crash and the identities of those involved is not known at this time.
