SACRAMENTO, CA -- Two people were killed and one person critically injured early Saturday morning in a collision involving two vehicles near the River Gardens neighborhood in Sacramento, according to KCRA.
The incident occurred near Columbus Avenue and Northgate Boulevard at approximately 2:30 a.m.
Two 28-year-old women who were occupants in one vehicle were killed on scene. One occupant in the same vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital with critical injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
It remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
The road was shut down for many hours following the incident as authorities investigated the scene.
